Webinar recording – Social media content without the cringe: Storytelling for arts & culture

About the webinar

Social media content without the cringe: Storytelling for Arts & Culture is a practical, reassuring webinar designed for anyone who knows short-form video matters but feels uncomfortable with most of what they see online.

Led by the Digital Culture Networks Video and Digital Content Tech champion Dean Shaw, this session reframes short-form video as miniature storytelling rather than social media performance, showing how arts and cultural organisations can create confident, engaging content without chasing trends or compromising artistic integrity.

Drawing on principles from film, theatre, and documentary practice, this webinar will explore how to find strong story moments within everyday cultural work and shape them into purposeful short videos that build curiosity and connection.

The session includes a special guest appearance from published author and social media expert Hannah Isted, who will share insights into audience behaviour, platform culture, and why thoughtful, authentic content consistently outperforms forced or “cringe” approaches.

By the end of the webinar, you will learn:

  • How to structure short-form videos using simple storytelling frameworks that work across platforms.
  • How to develop a natural, credible on-camera or voice-over style that feels calm and confident rather than performative.
  • How to identify and create repeatable, low-pressure video formats that fit comfortably within the realities of arts and cultural organisations
