Did you know that the festive season can be a great opportunity for creative and cultural organisations and artists to generate online revenue? During December consumer spending leaps as many people celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and other festivals with gift-giving and plenty of socialising.
Data from the Office of National Statistics shows that consumer spending builds through November, reaching its peak for the year in December. Throughout the rest of the year, consumer spending averages £34 billion per month, but spending in December leaps to over £50 billion. That’s an increase of +50% more than the average month. And it’s this big increase in consumer spending which explains why it pays to get ready for the festive season.
This leap in consumer spending affects all categories, from increased spend on food and drink, outfits for parties and even an increase in furniture sales, as people make sure they have a comfy sofa for all that festive television! But the big increase that creative organisations in particular can benefit from is spending on gifts.
